Why not using the (La)TeX idea of an irrational number, adding a digit
each round? sqrt(11) = 3.316624... would do. So the next one would be
3.3, then 3.31, 3.316, ...
[Sadly, the "nice" numbers \pi, e, \phi are too small now...]
