annoying syslog message from kernel

You are correct... I also see the "Badness at kernel/softirq.c:138"
message.

Another thing... On occasion the system, Powermac with dual G4
processors, fails to boot because of a "spinlock" problem on CPU0. 

Hmmm... I wonder if these two events are related.
