Not if they don't have to. This method is incredibly bad at continuing to
track "upstream" changes while preserving "downstream" modifications. If
they could just pull the upstream and have it merge with the downstream it
would be far far easier to keep their modifications (adjusting over time) but
get the upstream changes as well.
