Sure, but if you have a session running on TTY6 and you give somebody TTY7,
they can physically switch back to TTY6 and have your session. Just like if
you left yourself logged in at any of the virtual consoles.
That said, my original point should stand, that fast user switching relies
upon gnome screensaver to lock the screen. Is that failing for the original
poster in some way? (note, gnome-screensaver does not lock the Root's
screen, don't log in as root)
