Sun just released the JDK under the GPL implications for F8 / F9?

Hi all,

Sun has just released (most of) the JDK under the GPL, hurray!

Looking forward to the next devel cycle what will this mean? I haven't looked
yet at which parts are missing, as some parts are missing since they are not
Sun's to open.

But I think we need a new java strategy for F8, or otherwise surely F9, taking
the GPL JDK into account. In my limited experience gcj, although a great
achievement, fails to run many java programs, including many opensource java
programs, out of the box.

I've been tempted sometimes to try and fix either the app or gcj, but after
Sun's promise I've opted to invest my time elsewhere. Although I'm a java noob,
I'm also a quick learner, and I'm thinking about sinking some serious time into
this, but we first need a strategy I think.

Well thats really all I've to say about this, not much really, but I'm kind
hoping this will be the start of a very interesting thread :)

Regards,

Hans
