SuperSavage/IXC 64 woes

With the transition from "Xorg 7.0" to "Xorg 7.1" some time last year, direct rendering with the "SuperSavage/IXC 64" chip which is typically encountered in "IBM ThinkPad T23" notebooks caught some serious issues, such as "glxgears" showing a black window and causing high system load as well as some "GL" screensavers blocking the display. At the time of the transition to "Xorg 7.2" and driver version 2.1.2, "DRM" got completely broken, leading to a "libGL error: drmMap of framebuffer
failed" and "direct rendering: No". For the old driver version 2.1.1, I had submitted a patch at

which applies to "FC6" but never made its way into an updated driver package. For the new driver 2.1.2 present in "F7", one has to build "drm.ko" and "savage.ko" from the "freedesktop.org" development tree in order to recover working hardware rendering.

Are there still some other "T23" users out there who face the same problems and are unsatisfied with the attention that the "savage" driver receives? The "T23" used to be quite popular and still competes well with current models.
