I've used evolution with the exchange connector on FC6 and F7.  I
don't use the gloabl address list because I've never gotten it to
work.  If you need the address list your best bet is to export the
list in a format that can be imported into the evolution contacts
manager.  Yes it's a pain to do that.

As to your other question, yes it's very common.  I would equate it to
a cold that you can't get rid of. I'm just being negative, because I
have to use it with the exchange connector.  No chance for IMAP or
other stuff.
