Services automaticly change firewall rules to open access to themselfs.

Not that for many setups the person in front of the computer does not
have a root password and would prefer not to get spammed with messages
about things he can do nothing about (even if he did care).

For the record smartd does send emails right away if it detects
something wrong with the disk.
