The other fact Chris denys to accept: openalpp is dead and discontinued.

It even is documented:

# openalpp-cvs-20060714]$ ./configure --help
Some influential environment variables:
...
  OPENTHREADS_CFLAGS
C compiler flags for OPENTHREADS, overriding pkg-config
  OPENTHREADS_LIBS
linker flags for OPENTHREADS, overriding pkg-config

Use these variables to override the choices made by `configure' or to help
it to find libraries and programs with nonstandard names/locations.
