Yes but who cares about a screensaver when you

1) use a kvm switch
2) have no monitor connected, but use vlc-server (you do need gnome 
installed for that)
3) have no monitor connected, but use a virtual remote console (as in 
our sun systems).

As mentioned earlier, the best solution may be to turn the root desktop 
into a special rescue environment...
