Running X from console login for a variety of reasons (e.g. can't run
gui config tools in a xterm opened using sudo -i, when I log in from
kdm).

Changing the hostname can still crash the desktop. It may be a bug or
design fault in X, KDE or something else, but it still happens :)

However I don't know how plugging dsl in works with the latest F8
release because I have no internet connection at home and I'm not
risking my work desktop on f8t[n] because if I can't work, I can't
work ...
