The term in question is "source", not "source code".
(And furthermore, the GPL, as is common for a legal document, defines
several key terms that do not have a consistent, generally accepted
meaning. The definitions have authority only within the scope of the
document. Seeing such a definition is a pretty good indication that
either the term does not have a broadly accepted definition or the
document is relying some particular subtlety of that meaning.)
