Package review backlog.

Yes.  It will help get you sponsored faster as it will show that you
understand the packaging guidelines and any bugs that you find and the
packager addresses will help whoever approves the package in the end (it
might even be you when you get sponsored).

Theoretically yes.  The problem I have seen with merge reviews, though
is that the packager has no reason to respond to the reviewer.  So
sometimes the merge reviews progress like any other review and things
are great.  Other times, the package owner is unresponsive and you are
left wondering why you've gotten no response.

This is something we may have to address with ideas specifically
targeted at them.  Doing important merge reviews first, then blocking
the rest of the unreviewed packages until they've finished review.
Creating a list of merge reviews at the start of a Fedora release cycle
that are going to be release blockers and alerting the package
maitnainers that the merge review for that package has to be resolved as
a high priority.  I'm sure there's other, better, ideas out there as
well :-)

You probably should not take ownership.  However, I know that some
sponsors will review the review work you've done, sponsor you, and have
you finish up the review of the packages yourself.
