No - a concrete difference is that when you click the Firefox icon
with multiple desktops, you get a new window for the same Firefox
process because Firefox uses the X server as a naming service.  More
modern applications use the DBus session bus for this purpose.

There is X server per session bus per user login per user id.
Breaking that model greatly increases pain for very little to no gain.
