NUMA basically relates to the fact that in some systems not all memory
is equal. Not all nodes may be able to access all memory locations,
or access to some memory locations is slower/faster than access to
other locations. It is beneficial for the OS to know about this.

AMDs Opteron series uses a system like this, so it's definitely quite
mainstream these days.
