wow!  that's very cool.  thanks for the tip.

so, it's ld-linux-x86_64 that's crashing.  could be the same problem
that Pavel Alexeev was having with fotoxx? (now at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=487472)
