Noone is saying that.

I suspect some people might be thinking "why affect the 98% for the benefit of a 
handful of people who, if they are using a VPN, could probably manage to click 
on a button in an applet, or launch a command from a menu, or type something in 
order to bring up the VPN?" ...

I'd love to see an applet that let you go "hey, please start this interface". 
Oh, wait, we used to have one ...
