there are also inconsistencies between gui clickery and shell usage...
simple example:

click "shutdown" in gnome just does it in f12

issuesing shutdown -h now on the shell asks for root password ... id
really expect a system to show consistent behaviour not only in gui
clickery but system wide. this feels pretty broken to me.
