See if ldapsearch from the command line works:
/usr/lib/mozldap/ldapsearch -h windowshost -p 636 -Z -P 
/etc/dirsrv/slapd-yourinstance -D 
"cn=administrator,cn=users,dc=yourdomain,dc=com" -w thepassword -s base 
-b "" "objectclass=*"
