It's pretty straightforward. http://fedora.redhat.com/participate/documentation-quick-start/ will give you a good overview of the process. After that, it's picking a topic, reading http://fedora.redhat.com/participate/documentation- guide/ , checking out example tutorial from CVS, and writing. Please take a look at those pages, let us know if you have any questions. cheers - Karsten -- Karsten Wade, RHCE * Sr. Tech Writer * http://people.redhat.com/kwade/ gpg fingerprint: 2680 DBFD D968 3141 0115 5F1B D992 0E06 AD0E 0C41 IT executives rate Red Hat #1 for value http://www.redhat.com/promo/vendor/ From ghenry at suretecsystems.com Fri Feb 4 09:29:54 2005 From: ghenry at suretecsystems.com (Gavin Henry) Date: Fri, 4 Feb 2005 09:29:54 -0000 (GMT) Subject: Building a secure proxy server Message-ID: <34621.193.195.148.66.1107509394.squirrel@webmail.suretecsystems.com> Dear all, Would the docs project be interested in us updating: http://www.suretecsystems.com/docs/proxy-guide-en/ for FC3/4 and donating/maintaining it for the docs project? XML->PDF is severely broken and has been for quite a while now. Almost all of the upstream work on this topic seems to have fallen fallow. There are some commercial packages, such as XEP, that claim to work but they are not opensource. I was able to generate a PDF from the IG by using "fop". However, development on this tool stopped a couple of years ago. But "fop" is only a partial implementation. I have a 197 page document that fop aborts on with a message that it generated the same "id=" attribute value twice. Hurrumpf! You might try the Apache FOP tool as an interim measure, but we need a solid toolset -- which we do not have. Cheers! Well, that's actually good news :) PDF build has been broken for about a month on this document using the standard toolchain (before I started putting EPS in), so I couldn't be sure that it would build for anybody. > You might try the Apache FOP tool as an interim measure, but we need > a solid toolset -- which we do not have. True. The decision was made to put all the pieces in place for PDF generation anyway, so that it could be built when a new toolchain is sorted out. Since it more or less worked at one point, I was hoping that the current toolchain could be coaxed into giving us something, even if only for the purposes of validating the markup and the EPS files. I know very little about this technology, but I can act as a guinea pig if anyone has anything specific that that they would to try out with new or existing tools. -- Stuart Ellis s.ellis at fastmail.co.uk From ghenry at suretecsystems.com Tue Feb 8 12:01:22 2005 From: ghenry at suretecsystems.com (Gavin Henry) Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2005 12:01:22 -0000 (GMT) Subject: Adding FOP Support to xmlto to fix PDF generation (Bug 147472) Message-ID: <63221.193.195.148.66.1107864082.squirrel@webmail.suretecsystems.com> Dear all, Just been chatting to Tim Waugh via irc and I am going to start work on adding FOP support to xmlto, in the hope of fixing the current Docbook XML PDF generation problems.
