Sorry, my email was extremely lacking in background detail. It was
really directed at the people who have worked on various parts of the
wiki-to-XML conversion tools, but I'm happy to give more details.

The conversion need is the opposite direction, going from content in the
wiki to DocBook XML.
A wiki is good for collaboration amongst a large group, and makes a fair
location for writing short guides. DocBook XML is better for
maintaining longer, more complex documents that need translation and
output in multiple formats (HTML, PDF, etc.)
