That's a rather strange comment. It should probably say something like
"If the package has any translations, add BuildRequires: gettext and use
the %find_lang macro to find them."

Hmm. You may need to make a patch to remove calls to strip from the
makefiles then.

I don't think that there's any hard rule as to where the icon should be,
but I haven't seen an awful lot of apps that put their desktop icon
elsewhere. Plus it makes icon themeing trickier, if you're into that
sort of thing.
