The future of wxGTK in Extras

What are the plans for wxGTK(2) in Extras?
Currently there is the previous stable version 2.4.2.
The new stable version, however, is 2.6.2. I did not
try it, but I presume that they are not quite compatible,
so there must be some parallel install.
The interest in wxGTK extras seems to be quite low,
is there any active maintainer?
I think wxGTK is important, because quite a few
cross platform applications (e.g. pgadmin III)
use it, and the old stable version 2.4.2 is being phased out.
