Yeah, heh sorry I must have put my brain on the shelf...
Looking into the WINE configure.ac you find that it looks
for (the excellent program) fontforge, and if present, it will
use the stuff in the fonts/ subdirectory to prepare a number of
fonts, so it's a BR: fontforge.

If you have fontforge (I believe, nota bene), the following build 
error log appears:

(Sorry for Swedish locale, it means found but uninstalled files
found.)

My fontforge is: fontforge-20050502-1, luckily it is already in
Fedora Extras.
