Tried both
$ make mockbuild
from an extras cvs checkout and a manual
$ mock --debug maxima-5.9.1.9rc*.src.rpm

In both cases, the build dies/halts somewhere (and sbcl enters it's 
debugger) and mock's build.log is empty.
