Sure, but what are the practical consequences ? Will it break anything ?

The bad side-effects of not owning it are well known, no one has pointed
out yet any bad side-effect of owning it. Other than something somewhere
in another galaxy may have need of unambiguous ownership of this dir to
install plugins.

Does such a beast actually exist ?
