Altering %{_libdir}

That is true. However, the mono packages require everything to be
in /usr/lib, so adding the _libdir line does no harm is you're on i386.
I don't have access to a PPC so can't comment on it.

For the time being, it's worked quite nicely and I should have updates,
read and eager for someone to approve them/poke them with a pointy stick
and allow/not allow into FE.

There has just been a posting on the mono-dev list regarding FC and the
lack of mono packages, so it is something folks want!
