Just remember I did a 'yum groupupdate Fonts' to make sure my default fonts
included all standard installs.  Things broke at some stage after that.

But I've tracked this down, if I do:

yum remove cjkunifonts-uming

fontforge now works

yum groupupdate Fonts

This will reinstall cjkunifonts-uming and things break.  So the default fonts
installed are causing the fontforge breakage and specifically
cjkunifonts-uming.
