There's one interesting behaviour when I change the font rendering options
under the "Appearance Preferences" dialog box.

For instance, right now I have 'subpixel smoothing' enabled and in my gnome
bar, the title entry for this firefox window is barely readable.

Now if I switch to 'Best shapes' (or any other), corruption disappears.  But if
I switch back to 'subpixel smoothing' it comes back up.

Well I guess it's not just a matter of font corruption: I just restarted the
'Appearance Preferences' program again and the background color of the app was
all black...
