Jens, when you say "overriding Japanese fonts" what do you mean? What is your
testing protocol? Does the behaviour change if your remove the droid fontconfig
symlink in /etc/fonts/conf.d?

The original post mentions gucharmap, but I don't think it's the right
application to test the CJK language-specific overrides we do in fontconfig
rules. You need an app that displays complete text (not just some individual
glyphs) and sets the japanese language (tests under the en_US locale are not
valid)

Droid itself does not even try to do something specific for japanese anymore
