Time: 2007-11-29 05:00 UTC [1] Place: #fedora-meeting If you have ideas for i18n related features please submit them before the meeting. If you are unable to attend you can also follow up with any comments afterwards to the meeting summary/log. Some of the current possible features we are considering include: - Handwriting recognition for Chinese characters - IM Desktop integration - Fonts - Thai fonts and support - new default Japanese font: VLGothic-fonts - additional fonts for current languages Other suggestions and proposals are most welcome. Currently Voikko itself (the package libvoikko) and it's dependencies (malaga [2] and malaga-suomi-voikko) have been packaged, they'll probably hit the stable repositories of F-7 and F-8 in about a week or so. There are a some parts of the Voikko project that I haven't packaged yet: Tmispell-voikko is a wrapper around ispell to use Voikko in ispell-compatible programs, it also has an enchant component. OpenOffice.org-voikko is an OpenOffice extension to support Finnish spellchecking and hyphenation through Voikko in OO.o. Currently I'm a bit busy with other things, but my goal is to get all these components packaged for F-9. What do you think, could "Free Finnish spellchecking and hyphenation" be an I18N feature for F-9? Great! > What do you think, could "Free Finnish > spellchecking and hyphenation" be an I18N feature for F-9? It sounds good to me as a potential F9 feature. (Just to clarify feature proposals will just be Fedora Features they won't be I18n Features per se - so we are just considering what features people in the fedora-i18n project want to propose.:) Are you going to write a feature proposal? :) Thanks, Jens From vpivaini at cs.helsinki.fi Wed Nov 21 16:16:04 2007 From: vpivaini at cs.helsinki.fi (Ville-Pekka Vainio) Date: Wed, 21 Nov 2007 18:16:04 +0200 Subject: F9 Feature planning meeting In-Reply-To: <47439EB2.6070705@redhat.com> References: <4742926B.7030401@redhat.com> <200711201123.12539.vpivaini@cs.helsinki.fi> <47439EB2.6070705@redhat.com> Message-ID: <200711211816.04319.vpivaini@cs.helsinki.fi> Jens Petersen wrote: > > What do you think, could "Free Finnish > > spellchecking and hyphenation" be an I18N feature for F-9? > > It sounds good to me as a potential F9 feature. > (Just to clarify feature proposals will just be Fedora Features > they won't be I18n Features per se - so we are just considering what > features people in the fedora-i18n project want to propose.:) > > Are you going to write a feature proposal? :) I might, although all this is quite new to me. Take a look at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/9/FeatureList. >From the page: "A blank template is available at Features/EmptyTemplate and a completed example is at Features/Template". Well it is partly a matter of how much attention you want for this work IMHO. I mean the packages can be added to Fedora of course whether it is an official accepted feature or not. So it is not like you have to propose it as a feature in order for it to go into Fedora. I think it would be very nice to have better support for Finnish in Fedora so the packaging itself is the most important part: in the longer term it might help with other languages that have long compound words too perhaps? > Are there any guidelines on writing one? http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/Policy Jens
