Message-ID: Hello guys! I have planned to start-up a LUG in my university. The first major event that I want to organize will be in upcoming 15 days. I wish to give a host of presentations. I have already collected all the important stuff from the wiki: presentations/Sticker designs/posters and will soon order them for printing. What I lack is the media. Nilesh(Electro Mech.) has planned to give away 1500 F9 DVDs and I contacted him for 150 DVDs. Although, we were in touch, I provided him with my mailing address and he also accepted my request but I have not heard from him lately since almost 15days. The event is almost around the corner. If anyone has some sort of contact with him or maybe help me out with the media, it would be a great help. This quarter's budget has already been decided. So, I can't really get help from there. I require atleast 50. I will try to arrange some more locally if possible. One more thing, Susmit, I need the source file of your presentation of TechTrix. Thanks! Also panning and zooming could be avoided imo. Benefits of keeping it small are many, with so much localisation power in hand/house, you could even have subtitles in multiple languages. ( some what wild idea, but for example Ankit's video should bring in more folks to .gu l10n work, and sub-titles in Gujarati can convince more people ) Cheers! I don't know if we are in a position to begin sub-titles. For example, given that we are hobbyist interviewers [;)] it could turn out to be a lot of work. But, it is worth doing. The driving reason for keeping it within 6 minutes is that then the video becomes 'sticky' and it has a single point or, at most two points of context. Any longer and it can fly past the viewer. -- http://www.gutenberg.net - Fine literature digitally re-published http://www.plos.org - Public Library of Science http://www.creativecommons.org - Flexible copyright for creative work From foss.mailinglists at gmail.com Tue Sep 2 05:22:02 2008 From: foss.mailinglists at gmail.com (=?UTF-8?B?IlNhbmthcnNoYW4gKOCmuOCmmeCnjeCmleCmsOCnjeCmt+Cmoyki?=) Date: Tue, 02 Sep 2008 10:52:02 +0530 Subject: [fedora-india] Installfest at Trivandrum In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <48BCCD7A.80302@gmail.com> ashik salahudeen wrote: > Is it possible to have some kind of promo materials about Fedora ? > Flyers posters etc will do. RHEL executives were quoted all over the web on news sites stating that things were under control and that nothing has affected the RHEL code repositories. However, there seems to be diplomatic silence being maintained on the Fedora project. My question is, what exactly happened? and what is the current state? Fedora send a total of three announcements regarding this: http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2008-August/msg00008.html http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2008-August/msg00011.html http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2008-August/msg00012.html The last announcement mentions that Fedora is moving to a new key. The plan for that is outlined in http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/rel-eng/2008-August/001627.html There will be further announcements when changes are required. Keep an eye on the fedora-announce list for updates. Hope that helps. I should be able to do this for the cost of media + shipping & handling which will be cheaper than what I charge currently because shipping does not have to be through registered post or VPP which are more expensive than courier rates. Additionally there will be an efficiency increase because of the larger number of identical orders. 2) For people who would like to pay for the cds and dvds - They can order cds and dvds directly from us through the requestcd program or if you can figure out a payment method where they pay you and you pay me then you can pay me in bulk and collect individual payments from end customers. 'cause we represent fedora casual is not a factor. I think Get Fedora skirts so you stand out in the crowd... what we do is what fedora is * EvilBob runs whatever is good will do EvilBob, lol * susmit runs afet EvilBob after tees will be better +1 for tees so what about if we have a design and let the ambassador print on what he wan t so representing fedora on people event by wearing t-shirt is not a good idea to me want +1 for tees hold on for a second what about girls? rishikesh, you are getting it wrong girls wear t-shirts don't they? but the _same_ t-shirt? they do here susmit, yes they do wear the same t-shirts. * mdomsch (n=mdomsch at cpe-70-124-62-55.austin.res.rr.com) has joined #fedora-meeting I have no problem, but why not ask the girls? uni-sex tees But, incase they are reluctant, we must think of an alternative if being formal is the case full sleeve shirts is a better option I am not much conversant about ladies-wears lets post this idea on list..and ask for "criticism" :) ok +1 +1 +1 +1 +1 +1 :) * btoogood just asked my wife she thinks tees will differ from country to country and? we are waiting with our finger crossed :D fedora is the voice of people, so lets put up on wiki for vote have we finalised for the men? or do we vote for it? lets take a vote lets discuss it on the list first...then we 'll have a vote * Subhodip thinks normal tee is better .. but not the white one ..if printed on black/blue ..its great if we go for a vote, we must also mention the estimated price against each option about the costing : we should select a nation where cost of printing and cost of tees/polos will be low +1 for blue and shipping withn APAC we should go for fedora colour shipping will be less than that of US considering APAC is a huge region, why don't we produce it two or three countries.. first get the artwork done .. then we can have it printed in our respective countries but lets not get into details first Subhodip, right then what about the idea of printing it locally? why bother about shipping right now subhodip +1 dipanjanc, hold on Lets define the tasks ok ok ok 1. Post to the list asking for suggestions ok 2. Request the art team along with Ideas 3. Decide whether it will be a t-shirt or whatever 4. Who is going to produce and store and ship 5. How many? EOF ok +1 +1 done anything anyone want to add? lets do this onefirst can we also list the estimated price when we decide? good idea good idea yes we can which point does this add to? 6.? dipanjanc, why don't you put up a wiki page on the same? i think we should consider both pricing of tees and polos ok. I will do it. And let you know thanks ok so may we move? it will help in price comparison and better decision making thats the end of discussion for shirts yes what's next? now lets move forward for the events yip lets yes anyone from china? i think we should go for a event in which all regions members can meet with I guess no...so no point discussing agenda 2 each other ambassadors we are from different countries susmit, link to agenda 2 please Subhodip, https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Meetings/2008-09-07 agenda 3 i think chinese people are not avaibale on the meeting susmit, thanks q4 events yes yea i have too a event on december 7 ! magie, please go on OT: we have an upcoming event on Sept 20, Q3 before we talk about Q4 oops...the budget for Q3 is closed. But please go on funding was allocated for apac c/o Harish Pillay oh, its listed ok SFD>' ? software freedom day http://bluepoint.com.ph/sfd08/ just want to ask how we go about getting help/funds if anyone has done it before if you have an event, you need to enlist the event before that quarter's budget is closed yes we've done that, what's next? the guidelines is also avaibale on the wiki if famsco approve that, you will get funded budget is approved but how do we get the fund? on december 7, 2008 i have Fedora 10 Realease party and install fest at Imphal,Manipur this is the first fedora event in my region I am not sure, probably you receive the fund after the event, I was so told...anyone from FamsCo here? magie, maybe we can just coordinate with famsco or harish about your inquiry magie, anything else? I think we can move on ok rishikesh, have you enlisted your event? it's ok, I think rishikesh is excited about his event :) yea you can check on the wiki have you estimated expense and mailed famsco? i would like to proposed an event in which apac ambassadors can meet with each other nope do that rishikesh, do one thing at a time that would be good but very expensive though going from one country to another ok btoogood, +1 btoogood, +1 +1 rishikesh, why do you think meeting in person is very necessary? btoogood, +1 +1 we are meetin here do i need to explain all the detail expenses while submitting as minutely as possible ok ok Subhodip, can you have one such event? may be at your place? or nit dgp? I meant release event... susmit we have a event on 20 sept shambo, just a second please i need to talk to people in my college * stickster is now known as stickster_afk do it please ok yes. that will be great dipanjanc, you can do that too at your lug? susmit: what about your place? yes I can. I suppose go on and organise shambo, please will need some details about how it's done susmit we have a event on 20 sept dipanjanc, mail me offlist ok is it listed ? * makghosh (n=Joy at 117.201.96.28) has joined #fedora-meeting check out http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents which one? * warren (n=warren at redhat/wombat/warren) has joined #fedora-meeting owner A. What you are actually looking for is a Request Tracker / RT whereby folks can write in to an e-mail ID to generate a request ticket and those who are willing to take it would accept the ticket and once they have dropped the media into courier, resolve the ticket. Everybody can e-mail to a given address, so barrier to request a media is lower than expecting people to use a trac to create ticket -- http://www.gutenberg.net - Fine literature digitally re-published http://www.plos.org - Public Library of Science http://www.creativecommons.org - Flexible copyright for creative work From debayanin at gmail.com Fri Sep 12 16:57:58 2008 From: debayanin at gmail.com (Debayan Banerjee) Date: Fri, 12 Sep 2008 22:27:58 +0530 Subject: [fedora-india] In reply to how to install dc++ in fedora? When you get personal requests, please update this page. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Distribution/FreeMedia/India/LocalContacts/LocalRequests Also, if you get requests from outside your locality, please redirect it to suitable LocalContact. The freemedia page is a collection of requests coming via the freemedia list. You should not update this page because for freemedia, you can not ask for cd/dvd. As a localcontact, you may or may not ask for blank media. Not quality video drivers leave the machine with only some default drivers and that is bad because some users would like to play games or start some eye-candy things like Compiz Fusion. This is negative effect to the community and some users of the Fedora community leave Fedora in interest to other distros that have that drivers. --snip-- I too agree with above snip from article to certain extent. I wonder what Fedora project is upto taking above thing in consideration. --snip-- I am strong supporter of the ideals of the open source and really love Fedora. I notice some mismanagement and lack of cooperation between official and unofficial Fedora projects. Probably we all would benefit more if the official Fedora updates and the Livna updates were more synchronized. And update of the kernel does not leave the system without video drivers or other vital parts. In that case, more and more users will leave Fedora and migrate to other GNU/Linux distributions even if they are "evil" or have signed suspicious contracts with 3th party companies... --snip-- What you guys think about above snip from the Article?? There is no proprietary codecs or non-free codecs in Omega. Some of them are potentially patent encumbered (only if you are in a region that considers software patents as valid) but nothing proprietary. Like I already mentioned, this is rebranded only because it includes third party software packages. The point is that it is not entirely different distribution. It is 100% compatible with Fedora. >> I never used the term "Fedora based" in my announcements. > > Is this phrase not the same? > "Omega is a desktop/mobile Linux distribution that is > based upon Fedora but includes packages from the Livna RPM repository." This is a quote from a article and not the announcement. The announcement is at https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2008-September/msg00015.html > I'm trying to understand if and what are the advantages to have another > distribution. Like all the different spins, this is just a matter of convenience. Many of the Fedora users go to a third party repository like Livna to get additional software. This live cd reduces that hassle and makes things easier. Also for people who are relying on media (CD/DVD) instead of Internet connection for software, this live cd is more useful.
