Hi,
We are still very far from being able to build everything in Fedora, so
we still have to keep our external repository _for_ Fedora.
Furthermore, we all have irreconcilable dependency requirements among
ourselves, so if one of the ISV builds _in_ Fedora will cause all the
others to not run on Fedora anymore.
However, we have two goals for Fedora 11:
1) Upgrade maven to at least 2.0.8. Deepak Bhole has contributed an
update to the package for 2.0.4 that he created with Ralph Apel's and we
are going to try and bootstrap that into Fedora 11. It is a complex
project, several new dependency packages are required (have to be
submitted, reviewed etc.) but it will allow many things to build in Koji
as maven 2.0.4 does not build the newer versions.
2) Reach an agreement with the other ISVs and the Skywalker project on
the version of some very basic libraries, so we can try and build these
on Koji and reduce the external sets. This will also make easier to get
more than one ISV set installed. It is not easy: some ISVs do not have
the means to modify their code and things like the JEE AppServer (JBoss
AS) are strongly tied to certain versions of libraries due to TCK
certification. But I hope we can get at least an agreement on some
jakarta-commons-* packages on this round.
Another question that have been asked many times is about announcements.
We have announced our JBoss As _for_ Fedora in the non-Fedora places
and it has had a high acceptance. But we'd like to have a way to
announce ISV-like external repo-based things _for_ Fedora to the Fedora
community as well. If there isn't a mailing list that could accomodate
such kind of announcements, would it be possible to create one? A
fedora-isv-announce list, for instance?
Regards to all,
Fernando
