So far, it appears to be handling the hardware better than F8, with less need for customization. There are of course a couple of tweaks that you'll probably want to make, but nothing critical. As far as your list, all seem to be working fine, except the hindi (I havn't tried it). Although, I did not have any problems in F8 either (e.g. the touchpad worked fine). To get the headphone jack working, I had to add the following to modprobe.conf: options snd-hda-intel model=vaio I should also mention that I have not yet tested Xen on this machine, since dom0 is not supported in F9 (should be back in F10). Note, you'll have to do the bios hack to turn on virtualization support - it worked fine for me. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Message-ID: <4843B7E2.3000302@xs4all.nl> Hi, I am looking for a program that can backup and/or synchronize data on my laptop (FC 8), on another FC 8 and on a WIN XP on my LAN. I have for WIN - WIN synchronization and/or backup the program SyncBack, but don want to have to switch to Win XP all the time I want to make a backup or synchronize the systems. Does anybody know which Linux program performs these actions by simply copying files from one system to the system on which they are not present and overwriting old files with the newer versions? This is the way I use to my satisfaction the program SyncBack.exe. Of course, the Win XP machine is accessible via smb. Later this month I plan to change to FC 9, hoping that most difficulties with the new version (no new version without it? own set of difficulties...) will be solved. I have been able to compile the driver on Fedora 9 on an x86_64 (HP tx1200). I have not been able to get the driver to work, so if anyone else has any suggestions on that, please pass them on. Here is what I did to get the driver to build: yum install xorg-x11-server-devel this pulls in a bunch of development packages, including those for xproto, and solves those dependencies. Next there were a couple of lines of code that didn't work on my machine, I commenting them out seems to at least let it compile: on line 495 of evtouch.c there is what appears to be a debugging statement that g++ doesn't like, I commented it out in libtouch.c line 37 in includes which I am assuming got lumped into a different header in fedora, because commenting it out doesn't seem to hurt anything. I hope this helps, and hopefully someone will be able to get the driver fully working. Unison is basically a two-way rsync that you run when you choose (or script via cron), so it can keep the newest file whether you change it on the PC or portable; normally with rsync you cannot do that. I've never used BackupPC but it is supposed to be a full-blown backup solution. -- Andrew Farris www.lordmorgul.net gpg 0x8300BF29 fingerprint 071D FFE0 4CBC 13FC 7DEB 5BD5 5F89 8E1B 8300 BF29 From fastie81 at gmail.com Wed Jun 25 22:41:25 2008 From: fastie81 at gmail.com (Fastie) Date: Thu, 26 Jun 2008 10:41:25 +1200 Subject: Fedora 9 On Laptop battery In-Reply-To: <93f25c220806250148g60ace0e0w86b86c610dfb63fe@mail.gmail.com> References: <93f25c220806250148g60ace0e0w86b86c610dfb63fe@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: <93f25c220806251541i6812600ckfeaeff4f72cd5086@mail.gmail.com> Hi I have been working on Fedora since Core 6, and found that now I've moved i've had to start using my battery more on my laptop than I used to. So my battery just doesn't last. I got myself a replacement thinking that my battery is dead but still had the same result. I am running an HP NC6320 laptop with nothing extra (clean install). My brightness is on the lowest setting. I went through my services and stopped all the ones I don't need and installed powertop and did what it told me to do, (but it is not permanent for one). According to HP my battery should last about 4 hours, however I only get about 1.5 hours if I am lucky. I have to say when I was testing this on Windows I did not get 4 hours as HP say but got about 3 hours. So running Fedora cut my battery time in half. One thing I did see on powertop is that my "Wakeups-from-idle per second" is running at "669.1 interval: 10.0s", this looks high. How do you reduce this?
