Sure that it is broken in RHL 9?  It seemed to me that update
was using an option to 'mktemp' which exists there, and does the
right thing, but which is not available in earlier versions
(which implies that this fix needs to be somewhat different).

Anyway, we are talking about some overdue stuff which does not
depend on RHL 9.
