Michael explained it in as much detail as I know in message
<20040507222550.A31352 at mail.harddata.com>. It sounds like the bug is a
showstopper for people with these boards, but I don't have any further
details. We'd need to get some testing in this particular patch to
ensure that it does actually fix the issue, but it has been accepted by
Marcelo into the mainline 2.4 series.
