FC3 and apt-get (apt-rpm)

Hi,

There is some sentiment for getting rid of apt-get for FC3 and newer
distros, especially in terms of the proposed yum.conf RPM package being
proposed & prepared, "legacy-yumconf-....fc3.src.rpm", at
     <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=177966>.

This package will update the yum and up2date configuration files on the
end-user's system to point to the main Fedora Legacy repository, and 
will live in the tools directory there.  But it will not update the
end user's apt-get config files to point there.

This was discussed yesterday on IRC (irc.freenode.net channel #Fedora-
Legacy).  Wondering how the general legacy users feel about that?

Will we continue supporting apt-get for the older distros?

If we do not provide apt metadata for FC3 users, then we are going to
have to change part of the text we provide with every release:

    ...Please note that this update is also available via yum and apt.
    Many people find this an easier way to apply updates.  To use yum
    issue:

    yum update

    or to use apt:

    apt-get update; apt-get upgrade

    This will start an interactive process that will result in the
    appropriate RPMs being upgraded on your system.  This assumes that
    you have yum or apt-get configured for obtaining Fedora Legacy
    content.  Please visit http://www.fedoralegacy.org/docs for
    directions on how to configure yum and apt-get.

Any suggestions how to change this wording to make sense if only some
distros we support will be able to use apt-get while others won't?

By the way, I don't see directions on using apt-get for FC2 on the
<http://www.fedoralegacy.org/docs> web-page, and I don't see directions
for using yum for FC3 yet.  Are we planning to update those docs?  I
believe our repositories are on-line now, so such documentation would be
appropriate to have out there for people wanting to update their FC2 and
FC3 systems.
