Why Xserver dies after changing from init 5 to init 3

Not a bug. Just a misconfiguration on your part. Execute the following 
commands:

chkconfig --levels 345 xfs on
init 3
service xfs start
startx

Then you should find your self in an X session and in runlevel 3.
