Well, under apt, there's a certain amount of 'sway' with that.
While it loaded the new kernel, it was still running the old one. I
don't remember how many levels I was able to postpone the reboot, but it
was very 'hands-off' and required no special skills. I was very, very
happy.
And I like how changing kernels has gone from a
cold-water-down-the-back, strict adherance to a howto to a trivial
single-command-line ease from the days of RH 4.0 to today. Whoever it
is that's caring for the kernel transitions, I appreciate their unsung
work and what HAS to be selfless dedication.
