Aaron,

How much RAM does the machine have?  I have similar issues but I am playing on 133MHz Compaq with 64MB RAM.  I am going to up the RAM (max of 128MB) and link some of the unused space to swap.

Also, I have noticed difference between hard drives that run a 5K RMP's and 7200 RPM's.

Good luck.  If you switch hard drives and rebuild, swap space size is a function of RAM.
