Im running fedora on a emachines m5305 laptop, and i had the same problem, if you have an AMD processor in yours, there is the setpci command and some parameters that will drastically cool your laptop down, the gentoo forum has the info, just google amd setpci and it should point you to it, the command i used for a athlon xp mobile was setpci -s 0:0.0 0x62=0xb7
