i've got a fairly basic 2.6 building HOWTO up at
 www.kwlug.org/files/rh_admin_manual-kernel.pdf.

it's not complete, and it's part of a much larger admin manual
i'm writing, but it should have enough to get you through.
feedback welcome.  i really need to get back to it one day
and finish it.
