To my knowledge, there is a tool to test which kind of modem you have in the linuxant.com. Have you try the HCF modem driver?

Hi All,

I have inherited a Sony Vaio laptop, whose Win XP Pro I dumped promptly
and installed Fedora Core (Yarrow) instead.

Most of the stuff works, except for the modem. I absolutely need to get
this working :-( I installed hsfmodem-6.03.00lnxt03112100free-1.i386.rpm
from www.linuxant.org, but no hope.

/usr/sbin/hsfconfig --dumpdiag says, among other things (the full output
is rather large, I will put it up on a webserver if anyone wants to
see it):

/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2115.nptl/misc/hsfpcibasic2.o: init_module: No such
device
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2115.nptl/misc/hsfpcibasic2.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2115.nptl/misc/hsfpcibasic2.o failed
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters. You may find more information in syslog or the
output from dmesg

dmesg has this:

cnxthsf_OsHookInterrupt: request_irq(dev=00:1f.6, irq=0) failed err -16
cnxthsf_cnxt_serial_add: ComCtrlOpen failed (1)
PCI: No IRQ known for interrupt pin B of device 00:1f.6.
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 00:1f.6 to 64
cnxthsf_OsHookInterrupt: request_irq(dev=00:1f.6, irq=0) failed err -16
cnxthsf_cnxt_serial_add: ComCtrlOpen failed (1)
i810_audio: drain_dac, dma timeout?

I am inclined to think that these drivers haven't been ported to Fedora
yet; I'd sure appreciate any help in getting this modem to work.

The exact name of the laptop is Sony Vaio PCG-GR214EP. I
did go through the information available on this model at
http://www.linux-laptop.net/sony.html

TIA,

Binand
