Fedora Core 1 random hangs during install on Compaq Presario 1240 notebook

Hello:

I am tring to install Fedora Core 1 on a Compaq Presario 1240
notebook.

During the installation of packages, the installation hangs.
It just sits there telling me that it is installing an
rpm, but never installs it or continues.

It seems to be random.  I tried it twice and it hung in different
places.

I left it for a LONG time and it did not continue.

Any ideas on what to do?
How can I help diagnose the problem?
