Speaking of viruses

I am not using antivirus software on my Linux machines but I think 
sooner or later I'll need to. My 2 Windows machines both have antivirus 
software and the definitions are kept up to date.

I sort of wonder if the antivirus software vendors sponsor the spread of 
viruses as a stay-in-business measure.
