SMP Kernel::Boot Failure-hang at "booting the kernel"

I was installing RH9 on a motherboard with a Intel Corp. 440GX - 82443GX
Host bridge, and an on-board SCSI card.

on to the SCSI hard drive due to a bug/issue with the linux scsi driver
I believe. My memory is a bit hazy about the details.

I got around it by placing an IDE drive in the box, and installing the
majority of stuff on to that, and just placing high IO data on the scsi
drive's.

It works fine with that set up.

I am not entirely sure if it is a "similar" problem hear, however I find
it strange that the single CPU kernel works fine, however the dual does
not.

I currently have the /boot partition on the scsi hard drive, but the
boot loader I believe is stored on /dev/hda some where.

I also tried having every thing installed on the IDE drive, but that did
not work either.
