SMP Kernel::Boot Failure-hang at "booting the kernel"

Okay, My test config is a little different, the lspci out is identical
with the exception of the last two lines:

02:0a.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 80960RP [i960 RP Microprocessor/Bridge]
(rev 05)
02:0a.1 I2O: Intel Corp. 80960RP [i960RP Microprocessor] (rev 05)

Trying a fresh install of Fedora Core 1 succeeded with one slight
problem probing the videocard/keyboard/mouse setup and launching the X
install. Reboot and the problem went away. (Had the same problem on the
Precision 610 that I'm struggling with)

Auto detection of the aic7xxx and the megaraid module went off without a
hitch. And the SMP kernel is running with no issues.

I'll run a more complete test tomorrow as I don't have the install media
for RH 7.3 or RH 9 with me right now. (and no way to burn them)

This is definitely an issue for me as well. I have several Dell PE
4300's that need to be upgraded from 7.3 to something that will be
supportable in the near future. This thread and consequent research will
hopefully help me avoid some headaches.
