Apt question (possible OT)

OK, heres my problem:

I have the ximian-connector for Evolution/Exchange installed and working
on FC1 (Had to use symlinks since it's the libcom_err.so.3 issue).  All
is fine and happy

Now I want to use apt to install some stuff, but every time I try, it
wants to uninstall ximian-connector.  Is there any way to get apt to
ignore a problem with a particular package?  

Sure I could use yum, but I like apt and synaptic (Mmmm... gui...)

Help?
