MP3 support?

Simply get the xmms-mp3 add-on package from http://rpm.livna.org -- note,
that you may need to install the one for Fedora Core 0.9x until the Fedora
Core 1 repository is filled with rebuilt packages.

Difficult to comment on since you force-installed a package I'm not
familiar with. Check XMMS preferences on what audio output driver you
use. Depending on whether you run GNOME or KDE, this may be "eSounD"
or "aRts" or even directly to kernel OSS driver. Maybe the problem
is in that area.
