I wish I could help you - I just installed the nVidia driver for my pc and
ran glxgears and here were my findings...
[root at x1-6-00-50-8d-4a-0c-b9 klinger]# glxgears
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
5266 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1053.200 FPS
6116 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1223.200 FPS
6116 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1223.200 FPS
6116 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1223.200 FPS
6116 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1223.200 FPS
6116 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1223.200 FPS
6094 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1218.800 FPS
5907 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1181.400 FPS
6116 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1223.200 FPS
6116 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1223.200 FPS
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

How did you get past the gcc error with the install? (I had to use "export
CC=gcc32 to get it installed). Or did you not have one? Are you using
driver 4496? From the looks of your XF86Config, you should be flying. I am
actually getting about 200 fps faster in Fedora then RH9.
